چکیده
Collapsing glomerulopathy (CG) is a distinctive but nonspecific pattern of proliferative renal parenchymal injury characterised morphologically by an implosive, global and/or segmental collapse and wrinkling of the glomerular capillary walls. This is associated with a nearcomplete occlusion of the capillary lumen, florid hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the visceral epithelial cells (VECs), and severe tubulo-interstitial lesions.1

Cytomegalovirus-induced collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis
Collapsing glomerulopathy is an aggressive morphologic variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis which typically presents with nephrotic syndrome and rapidly progressive renal failure. Most cases of collapsing glomerulopathy are associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection. We present a rare case of collapsing glomerulopathy associated with acute cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in...
متن کاملCollapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis: Increasing the awareness.
Collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (cFSGS), also known as collapsing glomerulopathy (CG) is of considerable interest for a variety of reasons. Its incidence is on the rise, and in many parts of the world, it has emerged as one of the leading causes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). There is currently no specific treatment and the response to standard immunotherapeutic agents is poor...

متن کاملApolipoprotein L1 risk variants associate with systemic lupus erythematosus-associated collapsing glomerulopathy.
Collapsing glomerulopathy is a devastating renal disease that primarily affects African Americans and associates with numerous etiologies, such as HIV and autoimmune disease. The presence of APOL1 risk alleles associates with HIV-associated collapsing glomerulopathy, but it is unknown whether these risk alleles also associate with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) -associated collapsing glomer...

Implication for health policy/practice/research/medical education: Glomerular collapse is one of the morphological patterns of response of kidney parenchyma to a variety of noxious agents. As such, it is commonly observed on renal biopsies showing a variety of diseases. It is important to report this lesion in the context of underlying major pathology so as not to confuse it with idiopathic col...
